A Pub is the main content unit of PubPub Platform. Pubs can be journal articles, book chapters, reviews, conference papers, blog posts, supplementary material, or any kind of content collected by a Community. At their core, Pubs are collected content and metadata.
Create a New Pub
Pubs can be created from several different places within PubPub Platform. Follow the instructions below to create a Pub from a specific View or Dashboard.
Creating a Pub from Views
To create a Pub from the All Pubs View, select the Create button from the upper right corner.

To create a Pub from the All Workflows View, select the Add Pub button from the upper right corner.

Creating a Pub from the Stage Sidebar
Stages can be configured by selecting the gear icon at the far right of the Stage. When selected, a right sidebar will appear with additional information about this Stage. Select the Pubs tab of the right sidebar. Pubs can be created directly at the stage via the Create button in the upper right corner. By default, any Pub created through the Stage Editor will be created in a given Stage.

Creating a Related Pub from the Pub Details Page
At the bottom of a Pub Details page, users have the ability to create related Pubs in the Pub Contents section. Scroll down to the Pub Contents section and select the Add New Pub button.

Create Pub in the Default Editor
A pop-up will open for additional information.
- Pub Type: A Pub Type for the pub. Selecting a Pub Type will affect the available Fields below. By default, the oldest pub type of the Community is selected.
- Stage: the Stage the pub will be created in. Any actions applied to Pubs moving into this Stage will be enacted upon the pub's creation from this form. By default, “No stage” is selected, unless the user is creating a Pub via the Stage Editor.
Once a Pub Type is chosen, clicking Create Pub redirects the user to the default internal editor form for the Pub Type.

If a field is not required, select the vertical grey bar to the left of the field to enable or disable for Pub creation. The Save button in the upper-right corner will be disabled until all required and/or enabled Fields have content.
When ready, select the Save button in the upper-right corner. An alert in the bottom right corner will appear if the Pub creation was successful. The new pub will appear in the All Pubs Dashboard, the Workflows Dashboard, the Stage Editor, and the Pub Contents of a Pub Details page (if applicable.)
