We’re offering several pathways to accommodate different community needs in this time of transition. Whether you want to expand your publishing operations, migrate existing work, or explore self-hosting, we have resources and support available. Below is an overview of migration options to help you decide on the best approach for your PubPub Community.
Review the table for additional information.
Option | Description |
---|---|
Scale your publishing operations on Platform | Scaling means that you are interested in expanding your use of PubPub by customizing your workflow or publication design on Platform. This can include mapping editorial workflows, improving integrations, or broadening your publishing scope to include new formats or communities. Submit the Platform Consultation Request Form to start the conversation. |
Migrate your publishing operations from PubPub Legacy to PubPub Platform |
Communities that wish to continue using PubPub should plan to migrate to the new Platform.
If the standard hosting fee is a barrier, we still encourage you to complete the migration form. We're committed to supporting our existing partners and will work with you to find a solution that fits your needs.

Archive your PubPub Legacy content on Platform | By default, Legacy Communities will be archived on PubPub Platform on October 31, 2025. In archived Communities, published content will remain visible but can no longer be edited. We will create an archive for each Community, host it in static storage, and point each Community’s existing domain to the static HTML archive of the content, ensuring that it remains accessible to readers in perpetuity. It is possible for archived Communities to migrate to PubPub Platform or other platforms in the future. There is no cost to archive existing PubPub content on Platform. |
Self-host PubPub | Communities will use our self-hosting guide to import content to a self-hosted PubPub Platform. Self-hosted Communities will use our self-service JSON export tool to download a copy of the Community and its contents. The JSON can then be imported into the self-hosted Platform instance, where admins can QA the community, and then switch their domain to the new site at their convenience. Until the self-service export tool is ready, review the alpha version of PubPub Platform. |
Leave PubPub | Starting in June 2025, Communities can use our self-service export tool to download a full archive of their community, including a JSON export of all Pub, Page, Collection, and discussion data and metadata, as well as a static HTML archive of the site and copies of PDF and JATS exports for every Pub. We will provide support and instructions for anyone who wants to remove their content from our servers and host their content on a different platform, or address questions about DOI or URL redirects.
